Maine Artist Bruce Robert Coffin
This painting depicts a scene very typical of police work in the late 1940's. Each day before the officers began their shift they would attend the daily briefing. At the roll call, they would be inspected and provided with a briefing of recent criminal activity. This painting captures a moment in time at the original Portland Police Headquarters which was replaced by the current Middle Street location in the early 1970s. The original oil on canvas was commissioned by the Portland Police Benevolent Association and the Portland Police Superior Officers Association and now hangs in the lobby of the Portland (Maine) Police Department.
