Officer Van Gogh

Bruce Robert Coffin always wanted to be a police officer.  He looked up to his uncle who was (and still is) a police officer for the Gorham, Maine Police Department.  He also has a cousin and a brother-in-law who are both cops.

Coffin realized his dream and joined the Portland, Maine Police Department where he has worked in various capacities including patrol, as a traffic officer investigating fatal accidents, a detective investigating everything from burglaries to homicides, a patrol sergeant and finally a detective sergeant.  Coffin even did a stint as a drill sergeant for the State of Maine Municipal County Police Academy.

Coffin is a largely self-taught artist who works in various media- watercolor, oil, acrylic and graphite.  He began painting as a way to escape the day to day stress of police work.  He has been painting seriously for the past five years, displaying his work in many different art shows.  He currently has five different paintings in limited edition print.

Coffin says that he is always on the lookout for new subject matter to turn into a work of art.  He has been commissioned to create many of his recent paintings.

He is currently represented by the Little Sebago Gallery and Frame located in North Windham, Maine where several of his original pieces are displayed.
